Affectionately known as "Gerbil," Katherine holds a master of science degree in clinical psychology from Appalachian State University and a bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology from Appalachian State University.

Gerbil came to Vermont in 1978 expecting to stay one year to teach skiing and ski patrol. She is still here but now teaches science at KMS and is a professional patroller at Killington. She is also an instructor trainer for the National Ski Patrol and for the American Red Cross. She also teaches various science and sociology courses at the College of St. Joseph.
